Basic RF Safety Courses
Description Basic awareness classes (100 series) are designed for those individuals that want to gain a basic awareness of RF safety issues and concepts. They can also be suitable for refresher training for those individuals that have already completed an appropriate mid-level course.
Description: This introductory course is designed for individuals that want an overview of the sources of RF energy, biological effects of RF energy, and standards for RF safety. It also includes basic guidelines for keeping safe distances from a variety of common antenna systems, such as cellular, paging, two-way radio, radio and television broadcast, and air traffic control radar. The biological section of the course explains the differences between the sources and effects of ionizing radiation and non-ionizing radiation. RF safety deals only with non-ionizing radiation, but there is often confusion in this area. The course is open to people of all professional backgrounds who simply want to learn the basics. Individuals who work in areas with significant RF field levels should take one of the 200 -level courses. Course Schedule
RF Safety Basics for the Communications Industry

The course also includes basic guidelines for keeping safe distances from a variety of common antenna systems, such as cellular, paging, two-way radio, radio and television broadcast, ENG and SNG trucks, and portable equipment. The biological section of the course explains the differences between the sources and effects of ionizing radiation and non-ionizing (RF) radiation. This course provides a sound foundation in RF safety. Individuals who work in areas with significant RF field levels, such as rooftops or towers, should take an appropriate mid-level course such as WIR201, RF Safety for Wireless Professionals & Tower Climbers, or BRD202, RF Safety for Broadcast Professionals, if this is their initial training in RF safety.
